Coupling between electron plasma waves in laser–plasma interactions*

چکیده
ALagrangian fluid model ~cold plasma, fixed ions! is developed for analyzing the coupling between electron plasma waves. This model shows that a small wave number electron plasma wave (v2 ,k2) will strongly affect a large wave number electron plasma wave (v1 ,k1), transferring its energy into daughter waves or sidebands at (v11nv2 ,k11nk2) in the lab frame. The accuracy of the model is checked via particle-in-cell simulations, which confirm that the energy in the mode at (v1 ,k1) can be completely transferred to the sidebands at (v11nv2 ,k11nk2) by the presence of the electron plasma mode at (v2 ,k2). Conclusive experimental evidence for the generation of daughter waves via this coupling is then presented using timeand wave number-resolved spectra of the light from a probe laser coherently Thomson scattered by the electron plasma waves generated by the interaction of a two-frequency CO2 laser with a plasma. © 1996 American Institute of Physics. @S1070-664X~96!90805-3#

One of the interesting Laser-Plasma phenomena, when the laser power is high and ultra intense, is the generation of large amplitude plasma waves (Wakefield) and electron acceleration. An intense electromagnetic laser pulse can create plasma oscillations through the action of the nonlinear pondermotive force. electrons trapped in the wake can be accelerated to high energies, more than 1 TW. Of t...

In this paper, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and electron heating in laser plasma propagating along the plasma fusion is investigated by particle-in cell simulation. Applying an external magnetic field to plasma, production of whistler waves and electron heating associated with whistler waves in the direction perpendicular to external magnetic field was observed in this simulation. The pla...

Coupled theoretical and computational work is presented aimed at understanding and modeling stimulated Raman backscattering (SRBS) relevant to laser-plasma interactions (LPIs) in large-scale, nearly homogeneous plasmas. With the aid of a new code for simulating and studying the nonlinear coupling in space-time of a large number of modes, and a fluid Vlasov-Maxwell code for studying the evolutio...
متن کاملPropagation and Interaction of Electrostatic and Electromagnetic Waves in Two Stream Free Electron Laser in the Presence of Self-Fields
A relativistic theory for two-stream free electron laser (FEL) with a one-dimensional helical wiggler and ion-channel guiding in the presence of self-fields are presented. A dispersion relation (DR) which includes coupling between the electromagnetic and the electrostatic waves is derived from a fluid model, with all of the relativistic terms related to the transverse wiggler motion. This DR is...

A comparison is made between the interaction of electron bunches and intense laser pulses with plasma. The laser pulse is modelled with photon kinetic theory, i.e. a representation of the electromagnetic field in terms of classical quasi-particles with space and wave number coordinates, which enables a direct comparison with the phase space evolution of the electron bunch. Analytical results ar...
